Mark Twain (1835-1910) is one of the most beloved American authors. He is best known for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Born under the name of Samuel Langhorne Clemens, Twain was also a popular humorist of his time and actually invented a few items.

In Paris they just simply opened their eyes and stared when we spoke to them in French! We never did succeed in making those idiots understand their own language.
